Calming Breath Saves You in the Moment

Hello dear Reader,

how are you? It's been a while, and I have to say, I've missed coming in to write to you all.

Many of us here suffer from anxiety, PTSD, and depression. And this COVID 19 thing came at us out of nowhere, didn't it?

Over the years, I've written posts about loneliness, fear, anxiety, depression and breathing exercises. Please refer back to those if you are having a difficult time, and are looking for in depth strategies with which to deal with these unforeseen, and very unsettling, times.

Please, also remember the breathing exercises I frequently refer to. They work like this:

*Breathe in slowly, counting to 8 *Hold the breath deep within you for a count of 4 *Exhale slowly, counting to 8

*Wait for the count of 4, and repeat

Why? Because this oxygen to the brain, at such a controlled rate, breaks us out of survival mode and states of fight, flight, or freeze.

We can now focus on what we can control, including our thoughts, and begin the strategies we build around those.

This is the fastest and least complicated strategy to calm the nervous system. And you can do it anytime, anywhere. The Oxygen allows our nervous system to feel safe again, and, one moment at a time, we begin to think clearly again.

Please repeat the above until your heart rate is regulated and you can feel a sense of clarity return. I sometimes repeat for a solid 10 minutes, so do be patient with the process.

Want to take this exercise to the next level? Here's how:

As you breathe in, breathe in Love, Light and lean into the safety provided you there.

Hold these within you, let them circulate throughout your body.

As you exhale, release all that is no longer serving your wellbeing. This includes fear, panic, disappointment, shame, anything you find you are ready to release now.

I do this exercise when I feel a panic attack coming on. So if you're heading out into the world that is now attempting to function at a "new normal", and you're feeling especially anxious, keep this exercise handy. You really can do it anywhere, anytime.

For me, in that heated, unsettling moment, I tend to simplify this to breathing in Love and exhaling Fear. Feel free to make this work for you, in the moment, as you need it.

Sending you so much Peace, and Hope for a Future filled with joy, happiness and, possibly even, a raised awareness of your you in this world.

We recently completed a week talking about Happiness. Yes, remember that one? It's not Relief, which is so often confused for Happiness. It is that deep satisfaction within us and allows us to see more clearly, think more clearly, and find the path that has been offered to us to take our first step.

I hope to see you there, in the group. I go live every day with inspiration and motivation, and topics like this one. Come in and say hi! No strings attached, just come and allow yourself to receive.

So much Love to you,

~ Jewelle
